The Magpies have impressed Hippolyte - better known as Drax since returning for pre-season training and he has told the local media that is delighted with the condition his side are in.
"Pre-season has gone ever so well," Drax said. "To be fair to the boys they came back from summer in good shape. I told them exactly what I wanted at the end of last season and set the bar.
"The new boys have been superb. They look fit and really good. Ashley Nichols looks a million dollars. He's fit, organised and has league experience. The boys from Basingstoke look keen."
Despite bringing in a handful of players already, Drax will not rest until he captures a striker, and ex-Southend United front-man Tesfaye Bramble may be that man - if the finances can be agreed. Bramble arrived on trial at the Berkshire club with a view to a permanent move and Drax continued, "I've got a good squad on paper now. I need one more striker. I'm really happy with what I've got but I just need to fill that missing link upfront."
Although only pre-season, the Magpies have suffered defeat in all three of their friendlies to day (0-1 away against Farnborough, 0-1 at home against Wycombe Wanderers and 1-3 at home against Oxford United) but have produced batteling performances in each and it will only be a matter of time before they get that first victory under their belts.
Kick off at York Road is at 7.45pm.
