Especially in such a difficult close season as this one, as League Two clubs try to save money - nay their very existence - while also trying to gather together a squad that will, at the very least, save their Football League status.
Aldershot Town manager Gary Waddock did get away for a holiday with family over half-term last week but, even then, he said that he never stopped working.
"There are one or two things in the pipeline and I was rarely off the phone while on holiday," said Waddock, who has 16 players under contract for next season.
He does not expect there to be any news on increasing that number - or allowing players to leave, so to bring in fresh faces - in the near future.
"In an ideal world I would like to have my squad in place when the players return for pre-season training," said Waddock. That date is three weeks on Monday, June 29.
"But that is not going to be the case this pre-season, it is just not realistic," said Waddock. "There is no news to report right now. I cannot eat into my limited budget as early as this. It's a case of sitting and waiting to see what will be out there. Yes, we have things in motion regarding players but whether or not we get those players is another matter.
"But many managers are in the same position. I think there will be a rush for players later, well into pre-season. I think there will be chaos."
