Shaymen Bid To End Six Game Losing Run

Last updated : 19 October 2007 By Stray Shots Team
The Hampshire outfit, who lost two of their first three games on home soil, have picked up maximum points in each of their last five home games

During that spell, they scored 13 goals to the visitors' three - with the three all being bagged by Farsley Celtic in a 4-3 defeat.

The Shots have also sent Northwich, York, Exeter and Ebbsfleet packing as they look to mount a serious challenge for the Blue Square Premier title.

In the last six games, the Shaymen have only lost twice - at York, having been two-up - and Kidderminster.

But draws in each of the other four games have seen them lose ground on the leading sides and with injuries and suspensions still biting hard it is difficult to see how they can get anything tomorrow.

And that may just be a position they enjoy being in as massive underdogs with little or no weight of expectation.

Town will have to be on their guard, however.

In each of the nine matches Aldershot have gone ahead in they have won.

And even when they have gone behind, which they have seven times, they have managed to pick up four maximum hauls.

Their record against teams from the bottom half of the table is played five, won five and they have outscored the opposition three to one in those games.

If all that was not enough to depress the most optimistic Halifax supporters, it should also be noted that Town have yet to record a win at the Recreation Ground since Aldershot rose from the ashes of the previous club in the town and reached Conference level.

The only point they have gained there was from a goalless draw in February 2005.

But they were desperately unlucky to lose 1-0 last September when, after they had dominated the game, they were beaten by Darren Barnard's long range 89th minute strike.

That is the kind of result Town have experienced on so many occasions this season when the football they have played has failed to yield the rewards it has deserved.

Their luck showed no real sign of changing against Grays on Tuesday.

Maybe tomorrow could be their day.
