Shots 2 - 0 Bristol Rovers

Against a strong Rovers line-up which started with no fewer than seven first teamers, this was always going to be a good test for the Shots, who literally made their introductions in the dressing room and walked out onto the field.

You wouldn't have known it, however, as on 21 minutes, they took the lead with a move started and finished by the lively looking Cook.

Bursting through the centre of midfield, the former Magpie cleverly spread the ball wide to Lehmann before continuing his run.

Lehmann then delicately centred back into the path of Cook, who slotted home Aldershot's first pre-season goal at the near post.

Rovers did threaten sporadically but found the burly Tobi Jinadu β€” a former Bristol Rovers youngster β€” in fine form for the Shots at the back, polishing off everything that came his way.

Rawle, Ibe and the determined Brayley out wide gave Brown more to ponder after the break, and after twice conjuring up good chances between them, combined for the second goal on 73 minutes.

Brayley this time did what the boss asked of him, crossing deep from the left to the path of the inspirational Dave Lee, who smashed the ball home on the half volley into the top corner of the net.

Although results don't count for much at this stage, this was much more pleasing for the boss, who has a clearer picture now of his first squad in time for August 13.

Speaking afterwards, he added: β€œThe result doesn't matter to me, what matters is that I'm not injuring my senior players. I'm getting a bit worried about Critts (Nick Crittenden), Dave Lee and Tobi playing too much football, but they offer me that backbone and stability in the side.
