The experienced pair had been mulling over their deals for the last few weeks but now, following Barnards decision to sign a new contact, assistant boss Martin Kuhl (pictured) hopes Lee will be joining by signing up upon the board's approval.

Kuhl told the Aldershot News, “Talks have gone very well and they seem happy so we're just waiting now for the board to approve the deals and they should be in to sign by the end of this week.

“It's a real boost, it should also help in bringing other players in who are waiting to see what sort of squad we have got for the season.

“We have got the nucleus of a good team, and as long as we can keep that nucleus, then add a bit of quality around it and we should be able to get out of this league,” added Kuhl.

Meanwhile, Brett Johnson is still considering his future, the youngster has been a long-term target of Northampton Town, but has been offered an improved deal by the Shots.

However, it now seems that there are further clubs interested in signing the youngster, although Kuhl maintains the they want the young centre-half to stay on at the Recreation Ground.

He said: “He could go over to Northampton and break into the first team, but he could also be playing in the reserves which would mean playing our reserves so that's a step back, we'd like Brett to stay on for antoher year.”

Skipper Steve Watson is yet to put pen to paper on a deal but is expected to come to a decision by the end of next week.

Talks meanwhile with prospective signings are ongoing, although no new names are set to be unveiled just yet as boss Terry Brown takes a well-earned break.

Kuhl added: “We're spending a lot of time on the phone but it's all a bit quiet as players are away and waiting to see who's going to offer them the best deal at the best club for them.”
