Shots Closes In On Squad Additions

The Aldershot News has reported that former Southend centre half, Andy Edwards - who made more than 400 appearances for the Shrimpers, has impressed Terry Brown since arriving at the club. Terry believes that he has formed a good partnership with new signing Rhys Day and looked solid against Brighton last Friday night and may be the answer to his defensive problems.

Shots' manager Brown told the News that he has been impressed with the way the commanding centre back has played so far in pre-season and intends to add him to his squad as soon as possible.

Brown told the paper, “Andy Edwards has shown that he has the legs and that was my only consideration with him really,” he said.

“He's a first class defender with great experience and he's the type of centre half I'm looking for. I will definitely be looking to sign him up as soon as possible.

“I thought all the other triallists have done well and I'll be having talks with all of them. If I compare my situation to this time last year, it's a totally different ball game and I've been very happy with my summer so far.”

The Shots continued their impressive pre-season form with a 1-1 draw against League One hopefuls Brighton at the Rec on Friday night, despite a torrid first half.

The boss had indicated beforehand that he would experiment with different tactics and he stuck to his word, fielding an unfamiliar 4-3-3 formation for the opening 45 minutes but reverted to the 4-4-2 formation oin the second.
