News has broken on Weymouth website www.theterras.co.uk this evening that former Plymouth Argyle striker Lee Phillips has turned down an offer to move to North Hampshire.

Weymouth boss, Steve Johnson yesterday reportedly accepted an undisclosed “nominal” fee from the Shots for the 24-year-old front-man however the deal was called off when the striker revealed he wasn't interested in a move to the club.

The news – which was broken by local Weymouth paper ‘The Echo' stated, “Aldershot are on the look out for a new striker and their manager Terry Brown made us an offer for Lee Phillips which we felt was acceptable.

“I put the offer to Lee but he was not interested in moving to Aldershot.

“Lee is keen to return to full-time football at a higher level and when I arrived at the club I said I would do all I could to make that happen.

“Aldershot are a full-time club playing in a league above us so when the offer came in I kept my side of the bargain and kept Lee informed of the approach.

“But he oviously feels the move is not the right one at this stage of his career and so he remains a Weymouth player.”

It's believed that the player was also being watched by Championship side Reading at the start of the season and Conference rivals Exeter City are also interested in signing the player.
