Ben Herd - pictured with Gary - signed a two year deal prior to the pre-season friendly against Fulham on Friday night.
A very popular player at Shrewsbury last season, Ben was part of the losing play-off team.
Ben is a Welwyn-born attacking right back, who began his career as a trainee with local side Watford, signing full pro forms in July 2004.
He was released in the summer of 2005 without making a first team appearance at Vicarage Road and signed for Shrewsbury Town, making his debut on the opening day of the 2005-06 League 2 season at home to Rochdale; he started all but one of the Shrews games that season and soon became a fan favourite.
Ben's appearances in the 2006-07 season were restricted by injury, with an ankle ligament injury picked up against Barnet in the March expected to keep him out of action till past the campaign's end. However, he made a surprise start in that season's League 2 play-off final after Luke Jones was injured in the warm-up; Town were beaten 3-1 by Bristol Rovers in that game.
Ben missed just one league game in 2007-08 and the 2008-09 season went well until he was suspended in the November. Unfortunately for Ben, he played just five more games that season before being released
