Shots boss Terry Brown paid tribute to the travelling fans in the Aldershot News after Tuesday night after watching his side come close to earning a well-deserved point he promised, "It will get better."
The Shots boss told the paper, "The tide will turn if we continue to play like we did at York. The fans applauded us off and they have been absolutely fantastic. They have travelled 600 miles round trip and must be wondering how we didn't get something out of the game."
But Tuesday night was not all bad. Despite the loss the Shots still moved up a place in the table thanks to Burton's 4-0 defeat at home to Morecambe on Tuesday night.
It all started so well for the Shots Williams tricked his way to the byline and his deep centre was met by a Crittenden header at the far post.
The goal spurred the home side into action and Ian Craney forced Nikki Bull into the first of a fine repertoire of saves with a 30-yard shot.
But Bull had no chance with the equaliser from Steve Jagielka and on 41 minutes former Hereford United striker David Brown scored to put the home side into the lead. Deep in injury time Gary Roberts added the killer third with a strike past Bull.
Despite Matt Somner's early second half sending off the Shots were handed a lifeline when impressive sub Ryan Scott centred for Sills to powerfully head home his fourth goal in as many matches.
However it was not to be and the Shots left empty-handed.
An in-form York side visit the Recreation Ground first on Saturday. Brown is hoping to have skipper Steve Watson back, but admits that if he plays it will probably rule him out of the Tuesday night visit of old foes Hereford United.
Holloway will also have to take it easy, after recovering from a knee operation in the summer, he now has tendonitis in the other knee.
