Shots Travel To Staines

Aldershot Town travel to Ryman Premier League side Staines Town tomorrow afternoon in a match that will provide new manager Gary Waddock his first chance to see his side in action.

With last Saturdays trip to Alton used to view trialists, Waddock has told the Aldershot News that after a good weeks training he plans to use the friendly as a first-team run out - rather than as a trial match. Speaking to the paper he said, "I have been very happy with the way the players have performed in training and their work rate and attitude has been very good."

Swans manager Steve Cordery has recently made a number of new signings in preparation for the new season - with the capture of 23-year-old attacking midfielder Leigh Mason being the most noticeable. The Middlesex club began their pre-season fixture list yesterday evening (Thursday) with an impressive and hardworking performance against League Two side Brentford in front of 1227 spectators.

Although Bee's manager Terry Butcher opted to field five trialists, Ricky Shakes (Swindon), Gary Smith (MK Dons), Donny Barnard (Leyton Orient), Kevin Smith (Sunderland) and Sebastien Kneissl (Germany - ex-Chelsea) all were of good standard.

The Bees opened the scoring in the third minute with a goal from Lee Thorpe however Staines managed to pull themselves level. Charlie Ide nudged Brentford ahead in the 59th minute but The Swans levelled things up shortly afterwards and should prove to be a tough early encounter for their Hampshire visitors.
