Still Two In By The Weekend!

Aldershot News reporter Rob Kelly has spoken to Shots manager Terry Brown and he has confirmed that the club are on the verge of announcing two new players while three more could sign by the start of the new season.

The news wont come as a surprise to supporters, indeed "two in by the weekend" has become a long standing joke on the www.shotsweb.co.uk messageboard since no new signings ever arrive - but this time there is a little more hope in the announcement.

Brown had said that he aimed to have "most" of his team in place by the time the pre-season training got underway, however with that date set for next Monday and the first friendly shortly after, the latest report gives hope that this time may not be a false dawn.

Brown told the paper, "The players I have been talking to are pro-contract players and you can't officially sign them until July 1 as they are still registered to their clubs until then.

"I have been talking to a couple of players and they have agreed to sign on July 1. The chairman is looking to show them off at the Party on the Pitch on July 2.

"I am as confident as can be that these players are on board for next year and we will definitely be making some more signings before the start of the season as well."

One message on the Shotsweb messageboard by "The Reaper" who is not a registered user, stated that The South London Press has reported "AFC fans hoping to see former Wimbledon striker Marcus Gayle sign for Kingsmeadow club have been scuppered.

"Gayle has been released by league one side Brentford last month but he is set to join Conference side Aldershot".

It was known that Brown was chasing a Brentford player, but we will have to wait and see if there is any truth in this posting.

With thanks to the Aldershot News.
