Waddock, 47, and his assistant Martin Kuhl moved to League One strugglers Wycombe Wanderers on Tuesday.
Taylor told BBC Surrey: "It's been frenetic activity at the club.
"We can't look back. If we did that we wouldn't be where we are today. We have to go forward and I am very optimistic of the future of the club."
Taylor, who expects interviews for the permanent managerial position will take place next week, admits he had hoped Waddock could be persuaded to stay.
He added: "On Monday I thought we had a very, very good chance of keeping Gary. He had indicated that it was going to become a very, very difficult decision for him.
"We sold him the vision, where we want to be, and we talked about additional budget for players.
"He's an ambitious guy, he wants to achieve success and it was really a question of whether he really needed a new challenge personally for him."
