Tel Loses Out In Race For Rawle

TERRY Brown's worst ever pre-season campaign plunged to new depths this week as he lost out to Woking in the race to sign striker Mark Rawle.

The Aldershot Town chief offered Rawle a competitive deal to lead the front line at the Rec this season but the former Oxford, Southend, Rushden and Boston hitman opted for Kingfield — even though the Cards' offer was not as great.

Rawle impressed Shots boss Brown when coming on as a substitute in the recent game with Bristol Rovers — thus prompting him to offer a deal almost straight away.

But since then, however, Rawle spent time with Glenn Cockerill's Woking and warmed himself to the boss straight away by netting the winning goal in their friendly at Lewes on Saturday.

And Rawle played again on Wednesday night for the Cards in their 2-0 defeat against Yeovil, before putting pen to paper on a deal.

This is the latest in a long line of disasters for Brown, who summed up his mood on Saturday, describing this as the "worst pre-season ever."

After also missing out on Julian Alsop to Tamworth and Sekani Simpson to Forest Green, the boss has struggled somewhat to bring in the players he wants to bolster up his squad.

With thanks to the Aldershot News.
