The Shots 0-2 Crystal Palace

Anthony Charles - minor mistake led to penalty
Ryan Williams suffered suspected knee ligament damage yesterday evening as Gary Waddock's men suffered their first defeat of the pre-season campaign against a strong looking Palace side in front of 1520 supporters.

Once again The Shots fielded a number of trialists as Waddock continued his search for the players he feels can help secure a bright future for the club and he wasn't let down - overall.

Palace went ahead after 22-minutes courtesy of a Ben Watson spot kick after Anthony Charles was judged to have impeded James Scowcroft inside the penalty area. The Eagles lead was doubled just before the hour when a defensive mix-up allowed Shefki Kuqi to slot in to an unguarded net.

Speaking after the match, Waddock told the clubs official site, "I was extremely pleased. Even though we lost 2-0 the goals that we conceded were of our own making. We need to eliminate that from our game and I am aware that this was a problem last season.

"Up until the penalty where they scored I thought that we were on top but this is all about getting it right for the Kidderminster match and from what I have seen so far we are getting there."
