Waddock: First Goal Was Costly

Shots boss Gary Waddock has told the clubs official website www.theshots.co.uk that Darlington's first goal at the weekend was costly and that his side couldn't manage to come back from it.

Speaking to the site he said, "I am getting different opinions of how we played today. Some press views are that we played poorly but my view is that we played extremely well first half and got punished again due to a goal that was scored with the last kick of the half that may have been offside.

"From where I was the goal looked offside but I was at a different angle but you normally get a good guage from player reaction and they reacted as though it was offside. The Assistant Referee gave it and it was a goal and there is nothing we can do about it.

"Overall I saw the game and I felt that we played well. We were the better team in the first half. However we didn't take our chances and that was costly but we were comfortable in the first half. Goals change games and to concede when we did was annoying.

"We have come a long way for this match with excellent support and we go away with nothing and that is really disappointing. The players showed total commitment and I feel for them today. They are bitterly disappointed in the dressing room but they cannot be faulted for their efforts."
