Waddock Blames Sending Off For Shots Defeat

Shots manager Gary Waddock has told Luton Today that he felt the sending off of Ricky Newman during yesterday's away fixture against Luton Town, changed the course of the game.

But he had no real qualms with the result and believes Luton should have put the game to bed by half time.

He said: "I think the turning point was the sending off for us. It did change the game. They got a lift from it. It's difficult when you go down to 10 men.

"They put us under a hell of a lot of pressure and it should have been over at half time. We didn't perform in the first half.

"We were unable to stop the pressure Luton were putting us under and putting crosses in from every angle.

"Luton played well, make no mistake about that, but we didn't perform.

"The players were told at half time and they responded second half.

"During that second half we took the game to Luton and it could have been very different.

"Second half we got at them and were on the front foot far more.

"Credit to Luton they kept going and got the goals towards the end. Overall I wasn't happy with the performance especially in the first half.

"I'm bitterly disappointed with the result. The sending off changed the game bit I but I won't pass comment on that until we've seen the video. The referee is 110 per cent, but we will see.

"The referee made the decision and had has got a difficult job."

On Town's chances of avoiding the drop Waddock added: "I enjoyed my time here, it's a good club and if they perform like they did during the first half they will get a number of points and get closer to what they want to do and survive."
