The Shots Player of the Year spent all summer on the sidelines following a groin operation in May, but made a welcome return to full training this week to hand the boss a much-needed boost.
Now, after completing several pain-free sessions, Brown is hoping to introduce his trump card either for Saturday's clash with Altrincham or Monday's trip to Grays Athletic.
The absence of Watson has been a major blow to the boss, who has endured a nightmare season start without him and no fewer than six other fellow first teamers.
But with Dave Lee now also out with a broken ankle, the time is right for the former Farnborough and Stevenage man to make his return and bring the kind of stability that the centre of midfield has been lacking.
Brown is also boosted this weekend by the return to fitness of Tarkan Mustafa, who came on as a second half substitute at Halifax on Saturday, and experienced centre back John Brough, who has struggled for fitness throughout his short time at the Rec.
But anyone who thinks that this rare piece of good news may signal the start of good fortunes, need think again!
True to form, Brown now has fresh injury worries for Saturday's visit of Altrincham with key striker Tim Sills suffering a foot injury and flying winger Ahmed Deen trying desperately to shake off an ankle injury sustained at the Shay last weekend.
Brown commented: “It's an absolute catastrophe isn't it? The story of our season so far.
“Both are struggling a bit at the moment but obviously I'll be hoping that one or both can be fit for the weekend.
“It's shame because with Steve [Watson] is almost ready, Tarks and John Brough possibly back too, I was hoping to give you some positives this week.
“I am going to try and give Steve some part to play this week but it all depends on what reaction he gets before then as to what game and how long.”
Despite a wretched start and these two fresh injury concerns, things are very slowly starting to click into place for Brown with his new signings Matt Somner and Bertrand Cozic already making an impact.
Cozic, signed on a game-to-game basis, will thrash out his immediate future with the boss at the weekend, while the versatile Somner looks like the perfect, experienced campaigner that the boss has been looking for to cover both at the back and in the centre of the park.
But despite their arrival, Brown continues to scout around for new talent as he looks to bring in at least another centre back and centre forward in time for the August 31 deadline.
Indeed, that search for a striker could well be coming to an end as Brown closes in on a transfer target which he hopes to lead the attack on Saturday alongside loanee Chris McPhee and in the possible absence of Sills.
That name isn't, however, likely to be Bertie Brayley, whose expired month-long contract was extended by just a week on Tuesday to give the boss Bank Holiday cover.
Brown goes somewhat into the unknown this weekend as he prepares his troops for two games in as many days — both against newly-promoted sides.
The visit of Play-Off winners Altrincham will provide a stern test for the boss — especially as the Robins have already beaten Forest Green Rovers in registering their first win of the Conference campaign, a 2-1 victory last Saturday.
The Shots boss commented: “Altrincham are not your usual visiting northern side who like to put men behind the ball, they are a good footballing side, who like to play in all areas of the park.
“They have two good strikers to be wary of and I think we could be in for an entertaining and exciting game.”
Brown then has next to no time in focusing his attentions to the Bank Holiday Monday game at the other Recreation Ground in the Conference — home of Conference South champions Grays Athletic.
Mark Stimson's men have enjoyed a solid start to their new season in the top flight, especially having thrashed Gravesend & Northfleet 6-1 last Tuesday.
This meeting with the Essex high-fliers sees the Shots go head-to-head with several familiar faces, including former players John Nutter and, more recently, Jamie Slabber as well as ex-Farnborough duo Dennis Oli and John Martin.
Don't forget, kick-off for this game is at 1pm.
