Aldershot News reporter Alex Narey reported in this weekends edition that Aldershot Town boss Terry Brown believes Tuesday's win against Exeter City will count for nothing if his side don't take advantage against Farnborough Town on Saturday.
The Shots boss claimed Boro, who are struggling forever both on the field and off it, would be up for the battle at the Recreation Ground. But he also admitted that the Cherrywood Road side is "not as good as his" and that if his men show the right amount of hunger, a win should be on the cards for the Shots.
Brown added: "If we show the same desire, confidence and drive that we did tonight against a very good and confident Exeter side, then we should be able to come away as victors.
"They (Boro) will come here with nothing to lose and everything to play for — kicking, scrapping and fighting.
"Before we start gloating, we have to make sure that we get the three points. If we can play the way we are capable of, then God forbid you could start talking about piling the pressure on and we may be able to start looking at the goal difference situation.
"But I'm not blasé enough to be saying that at the moment. What I'm saying is that the three points mean everything to us on Saturday.
As the News went to press on Wednesday, the main talking point between the two sets of fans was not so much the contest at the weekend, but rather which side midfield ace Gary Holloway would be turning out for.
Holloway has made no secret of the fact that he is leaving Cherrywood Road since the departure last week of Dean Austin. A clause in the player's contract has allowed him to do so.
Spotted as a spectator at the Rec on Tuesday night sitting beside former Boro and Stevenage team-mate Steve Watson, Holloway was watching both the Shots and Exeter, with Alex Inglethorpe a known admirer.
Brown has already shown an interest in the player, and refused to deny that after the Exeter victory.
"I'd hope that Gary was looking at the side that won the game tonight," said Brown, rather sheepishly.
"We are having talks and I don't think he will be playing for Farnborough on Saturday. I think with Gary it is a case of three clubs (Aldershot, Exeter and possibly Crawley) that are in the mix and I would very much hope that we are in with a shout. It will be down to finances as well as ambition.
"He's a very good player. A talented boy."
Players like Holloway are what Brown will desperately need, although in Jake Robinson the boss appears to have found someone that could replace the goal power of Jonny Dixon.
Two strikes in two starts have signalled a lively opening to Robinson's Aldershot career, and if he can repeat the form he displayed on Tuesday night, then a hard time looms for Neil Sillett's men.
Another to impress is Adie Caceres, who was substituted against Exeter after 60 minutes due to a stomach upset.
"They said to me at Brighton that Jake will run the channels and score you a goal every game," said Brown. "He never stops running and he can cause any defence problems with his pace. He is starting to strike up a bit of a partnership with Tim Sills now as well.
"Adie will light this place up. I need him fit for Saturday and I'm sure he will do that against Farnborough."
Boro haven't won since November 27 when they were victorious at Hilton Park against Leigh RMI.
Results and form have been nothing short of horrendous and the sacking last week of Dean Austin isn't likely to change that routine.
With Holloway — by far and away their most creative outlet — unlikely to play, it is difficult to see where the goals will come from. In eight games in 2005, Boro have netted only four times and wasted opportunities have been key to their demise.
Two goal-less draws, at home to Woking and away at Dagenham & Redbridge, is all they have to show for their efforts.
To add further damage, former Shots star and club captain Nick Burton finally completed a move this week to Crawley Town.
Defender Kevin Hemsley has arrived at Cherrywood Road in a straight swap deal and goes straight into the squad for Saturday.
Boro are likely to have Tony Taggart and Jay Smith returning from injury, while Chukki Eribenne — a former loanee at the Rec — remains a doubt.
In the corresponding fixture last season, Boro, then managed by Tommy Taylor, were impressive in the early stages and possibly deserved something from the game.
However, late goals from Aaron McLean and Jon Challinor wrapped up the win for the Shots.
Brown summarised: "We have to win this game and keep it going. We can't really afford anymore slip-ups."
