Since our Ryman League days, Wokingham set on hard times with off the field problems. The current club were formed in 2004 and find themselves playing under the name of Wokingham & Emmbrook FC. Former Shot Tony Calvert is the boss and will be looking forwards to welcoming as many of us as possible, in what will be our final pre-season friendly.
Don't forget it's a 7pm kick off and the match is being played at their Reserves Ground at Cantley Park.
How Much? We've been informed that it should be £1 - which may include a programme.
Allocation? 0 terrace, 0 seats. Its (I believe) a park style pitch with a barrier around the outer area. There are no advanced sales, pay cash (probably) at the turnstiles on the day.
Driving? Leave the A329(M) at the Wokingham junction, turn left (first exit) along London Road – towards the town centre. Keep on this road and it becomes the A329 (Reading Road). In the town centre, follow the directions for Reading. Keep on the A329 and then turn into OLD FOREST ROAD. Turn right onto Commons Road then go onto Emmbrook Road, then go up Matthewsgreen Road. Turn left onto Twyford Road and then take the first right into Cantley Park.
Nearest Train Station? Wokingham – 15 minute walk.
Pubs? There's the Molly Millar right next to the train station or just up the road from that is the Queens Head - as recommended by Wokingham Shot - and Clive say's that there's usually some good ale on offer too (cheers Clive). Around the corner from that is a short walk and you're in the town centre – where you'll find a few okay pubs within Market Place and again recommended by Wokingham Shot, the Broad Street Tavern. There's a decent pub next door to Argos (can't remember it's name!) or, if you are going straight to the ground, the Dog and Duck can be found on Matthewsgreen Road in Emmbrook which will be probably be host to the W&E FC team and officials following the match according to Mike, the official club website editor. He's also said that there is a clubhouse (with a bar) – but it may not be open.
Cheers to Steve Aspinall for getting in contact with Wokingham Shot for the info.
