Watson Joins Dons

AFC Wimbledon have reported that former Shots hero Steve Watson has joined their ranks.

Their website has reported manager Dave Anderson as saying, "Steve will bring tremendous drive and dynamism to our midfield. He has tons of experience and brings a thoroughly professional approach to everything he does. He is a real leader of men and the fact that he was made captain by two managers with very different styles, Terry Brown at Aldershot and Graham Westley at Stevenage, speaks volumes about him.”

The article continued, “while I was always confident that Steve would join us, I know he has had offers from Conference South and Conference clubs, which says all you need to know about how highly regarded he is in the professional game. Furthermore, he knows what it takes to get promoted out of the Ryman Premier League because he has done it with Sutton and Farnborough. If you really want to know how keen I was to sign him, ask my wife - I gave up our wedding anniversary celebrations to meet him earlier this week!”

Steve told us “once I heard about AFC Wimbledon's interest there was nobody else that I would have considered joining. Everything I've heard about AFC Wimbledon is that it is a massive club that is going places and I want to be one of the people driving it towards the league. I knew AFC Wimbledon was a team with ambition and, having talked to Dave and seen the set up at Kingsmeadow, it was only a matter of agreeing terms – and that didn't take long!”

Watson was not offered a new contract at the Rec following last seasons disappointing finish but Shots Mad wish Steve all the best at his new club and if he can stay free of injury and gain his fitness back he should be a very good signing for them.
