Match Reaction: Barnet

Last updated : 23 March 2011 By The Stray Shots

Aldershot Town manager Dean Holdsworth spoke to BBC Radio Surrey following Tuesday evening’s victory against Barnet and said that there was still more to come from his side.  Click here to listen to the full interview.

With Barnet operating a very low key approach to the media – there was very little as always, published from the Barnet perspective and on their Footy Mad forum or on the League Two one but manager Paul Fairclough told the PA:  "At half-time we had been the better team and we should have come in with a lead.

"We paid the price for a poor start to the second half. We played really well in the first half and they were determined at half-time, talking about what we were going to do in the second half. But then we did not start.

"The table doesn't lie. What motivates a player? Going a goal down? A great shot? They were motivated when the goal went in but that's nonsense, we should be motivated before that.

"The sending-off was critical. But we go down to 10 men and the players are motivated again - and that makes me angry. It shouldn't take those incidents to motivate players."

Meanwhile Shots supporters had this to say:

From Shotsweb:

“Altogether a much more entertaining game than last Saturdays. I think that it was a masterstroke at Half-time to put Spencer on. He worked tirelessly despite being continually fouled, shirt pulled, etc. Great goal by Danny, could and perhaps should have had a hat-trick. The players that Dean has signed are offering more week on week.

"One gets the feeling that Dean has something going here............”Stenhouse

“Another dire display”- militaryshot

“I would personally think making the play-offs would be a great achievement, but almost a step to far for our current team. I would love to see Deano have the summer to build a team for this division next season and really go for it.”Aldershot_Rob

“Wasn't a perfect performance yet again, but we keep pushing and come away with 3 points again. 4 wins on the bounce didn't come without it's nervy moments but overall I think we've deserved are winning streak, we have worked hard without being brilliant. For large parts of the game we kept giving the ball away to easily yet again, that said Hylton could have easily got a hat trick tonight would of eased a lot of nervy supporters if he had.

"But you can see why Barnet and Stockport are bottom two, defending got more nervous as the game went on and lack of discipline resulting in needless fouls, bookings and red cards.”aldershot-jg

“A very frustrating game to watch final ball wasn’t there tonight, fair play to Barnet they were so bloody quick in shutting down causing us to make errors.

We are no way near play off material but its amazing what a change of luck can do.

Well done to Dean and the squad for getting us to what is hopefully safety, I’m looking forward to next season where Dean can offer, offload, and recruit the team he wants just hope he has the budget to do this.”Ian G

“Of course the Shots can make the playoffs, with good luck (we are on a run) and if we win the next six or seven games (get even more lucky), so why the doubts?

At the moment we deprived fans are again enjoying our football, wonderful. I can even see myself going to Lincoln with a last ditch attempt to squeeze into the playoffs, great stuff!

IF we get to the playoffs and lose, so what, I will still feel apply and the Shots bank account will be looking much, much better.”Charles Dickens

That's all from this game - but just a quick reminder, as always, we're running our Shotsweb Man of the Match poll which you can take part in via our home page so, don’t forget to have your say!
