Arsenal Reserves vs Chelsea Reserves

Last updated : 14 March 2005 By Stray Shots Team

While Mick McGiven’s side travel to north London on the back of three straight wins, Arsenal have lost their previous two fixtures. Their side tonight however is boosted by a return to competitive action of Brazilian World Cup winner Gilberto following the back injury that has kept him out most of the season.

Chelsea make one change from the side that beat Leicester last Monday. Adrian Pettigrew is ill so Nuno Morais drops back into central defence from midfield where Jimmy Smith returns having served a suspension.

Filipe Oliveira (pictured) in attack will be looking to continue his productive run that has brought three goals in the last two games.

Despite losing consecutive fixtures, Arsenal are in fourth place in the reserve table, two places ahead of Chelsea. As well as Gilberto, striker Jerome Aliadiere is also on the comeback trail from injury while six others in the Arsenal side have first team experience. Arturo Lupoli is top scorer in the southern section of the reserve league with 12 goals.

Fabrice Muamba, Kerrea Gilbert and keeper Stuart Taylor are the only two Arsenal players remaining from the home fixture between the clubs back in November when they won 2-0. Nine of the Chelsea team will be looking for revenge tonight.

The full Chelsea line-up tonight is:

Lenny Pidgeley, Dean Smith, Steven Watt, Nuno Morais, Sam Tillen, Jimmy Smith, Anthony Grant, Danny Hollands (capt), Filipe Oliveira, Sebastian Kneissl, Danny Woodards.

Subs: James Russell (gk), Michael Mancienne, Dean Furman, James Simmonds, Filipe Morais.

Arsenal:

Stuart Taylor, Emmanuel Eboue, Danny Karbassiyoon, Sebastian Larsson, Fabrice Muamba, Kerrea Gilbert, Jeremie Aliadiere, Gilberto Silva, Arturo Lupoli, Qunicy, Ryan Smith.

Subs: Stephen O'Donnell, Mark Howard, Patrick Cregg, Anthony Stokes, Sean Kelly

The game is at Barnet FC’s Underhill ground, kick-off 7pm. It will be shown live on Chelsea TV, broadcasting starting at 6.30pm with Kerry Dixon in the studio and Eddie Newton co-commentating.
