Mr Machala’s move to take a controlling interest in Aldershot Town FC marks the unequivocal confirmation of the departure from the principles upon which the football club was reformed by supporters in 1992. However, the Supporters’ Trust hopes this will bring about a period of stability for the club as it rebuilds its balance sheet and prepares for next season, which promises to be an exciting one after Dean Holdsworth’s excellent start as Aldershot manager.
The Supporters’ Trust looks forward to an opportunity to meet with Mr Machala to discuss his plans for the football club and agree how we can best work together for the benefit of the club, its supporters and the local community.
We also note with interest the club’s comment in the media that shares may be available for the Trust to purchase, after previous requests to purchase shares were rebuffed with contradictory reasons provided.
Rather than revisiting the matter of share purchases the Trust wishes to focus on developing current plans for projects that will provide tangible benefit for the club, supporters and community while remaining true to Trust principles.
As a democratic society the Supporters’ Trust will be inviting its members to share their views of Mr Machala’s controlling interest in the football club at next month’s AGM.
