Quite how good a point this was remains to be seen, but Aldershot Town were relieved to escape The Crown Ground with a goalless draw from a scrappy opening day encounter.
With five debutants in both starting line-ups, Accrington Stanley were by far the livelier side for much of the game, and handed their opponents a sufficiently harsh dose of reality even though both teams struggled for form on a poor pitch.
Marvin Morgan ended a frustrated figure and Glen Little failed to impose himself on the game as Aldershot created scant few opportunities; Morgan's angled shot into the side-netting, after a fluffed clearance from centre-half Edwards, represented the visitors’ best opportunity.
Stanley never allowed Aldershot time or space to settle, but couldn’t beat Jamie Young with several half-chances of their own from dynamic midfield pairing Jimmy Ryan and Sean McConville.
A point represents an improvement on their last visit to Accrington, but Kevin Dillon knows that his team’s displays will need to improve manifold if they are to fulfil their ambitions of once again challenging for the Play-Offs.
