It was a case of all huff and no puff at the EBB Stadium on Saturday afternoon as Dean Holdsworth’s side came back down to earth with a bump and a 1-0 defeat against a determined Cobblers side.
Holdsworth opted to stick with the side that defeated Bradford City the previous weekend, however they were slow to settle following an early Cobblers attack and Ashley Westwood was left to powered home a first minute goal which proved to be the difference between the two sides.
A fairly evenly matched first half was turned into domination by The Shots after the break, but Northampton as expected, provided tough opposition once again and were far too strong in defence and Holdsworth’s side were unable to breach their lines as Gary Johnson’s men returned to Northamptonshire with a deserved three points.
Holdsworth was rightly disappointed following the match, but attention will quickly focus on Tuesday evening’s fixture when Torquay United make the trip to the EBB Stadium.
SHOTS: Jamie Young, Ben Herd, Anthony Straker, Darren Jones, Aaron Brown, Jermaine MacGlashan (Bradley Bubb), Jamie Collins, Michael Rankine, Danny Hylton, Alex Rodman (Luke Guttridge) and Peter Vincenti (Jake Taylor).
