Aldershot's run of three successive wins came to a sudden and unexpected end at the Recreation Ground after a spirited Scarborough performance earned the Yorkshire side a 1-0 victory.
Michael Coulson's header separated the sides in a lacklustre match, but the Seadogs will be relieved to have taken the points as they battle against the drop.
The opening was a dull and depressing affair, rather in keeping with the overcast grey Hampshire conditions. Both midfields had reasonable amounts of possession without finding that final ball to strike-forces starved of any decent service.
Scarborough went close on 18 minutes, when Chris Hughes found Coulson on the left.
Coulson did well to hold off the challenge of Lewis Hamilton, before composing himself and firing in a smart effort, which was only just over Nikki Bull's bar.
That proved to be just a warning shot to the hosts and, six minutes later, Scarborough took the lead.
Veteran player-manager Neil Redfearn swung in a corner which evaded the heads of the Shots defence, before Coulson rose unopposed to bury a header past a startled Bull.
The closest the Shots got to causing danger to an under-worked visiting defence was when Darren Barnard floated a cross into the danger area, but Ian Simpemba couldn't direct his header on target.
After the break, Aldershot tried to pile on the pressure with Leroy Griffiths unleashing a powerful shot from 20 yards which hit the outside of Ian Dunbavin's upright.
Barnard then supplied a testing cross, which eluded all, including the desperate lunges of Griffiths and Nick Crittenden to go wide of an unguarded Scarborough goal.
Crittenden then surged from midfield and supplied Kirk Hudson, but his shot lacked power and was easily claimed by Dunbavin.
In the end the visitors remained resolute to hold on for the win, which gives them every chance of avoiding the drop.
