Honours ended even at the Recreation Ground, as Aldershot and Barnet played out an enthralling end to end 1-1 draw.

Barnet started brightly and were clearly intent on avenging their 3-0 mauling at Underhill earlier this season.

On five minutes, Scott Donnelly lost his footing on the edge of the penalty area. Michael Leary picked up the loose ball and fired a tame shot inside the right post.

Nikki Bull for reasons only he will know, casually watched on as the ball nestled in the corner of the net.

Barnet then drove up the field through Albert Adomah. The winger bore in on goal but fired straight at Bull.

On 14 minutes Kirk Hudson, playing on the left wing, almost scored his 12th goal of the season, with an eloquent lob from 18 yards. Unfortunately for the winger, the ball bounced a fraction past the post.

As the half closed out Yannick Bolasie headed horribly wide from eight yards after good work down the flank from Joe Devera.

Aldershot almost got back into the game from the kick-off as Andy Sandell hustled his way into the penalty area.

Jake Cole could only parry to the alert Donnelly who was cruelly denied by the underside of the bar.

On 51 minutes, Aldershot did equalise. Scott Davies fired in a shot from distance that forced Cole to male another good save, but he was let down by his defence as Lewis Chalmers reacted quickest to slot the ball home from seven yards.

On 67 minutes substitute Nicky Nicolau cut the ball to Paul Furlong, but the 40-year-old fired a first-time effort onto the bar.

Hudson then went on a powerful run down the right flank. After going past three defenders, he cut onto his left foot, firing a vicious drive towards the top corner.

Cole again made a startling save diving at full length across his goal and tipping the ball wide at full stretch.

On 72 minutes Nicolau was again influential for Barnet as the winger's corner found Ismail Yakubu.

The defender headed powerfully towards the top corner, but was thwarted by another fine Bull save.

With little to play for the two teams thoroughly entertained the fans with endeavour and great technical skill.
