Jake Robinson's second-half equaliser dented Chesterfield's play-off ambitions after the visitors had dominated much of the game.
Chesterfield attacked Aldershot straight from the kick-off, displaying a level of technical courage not previously seen at The Recreation Ground this season.
The visitors played without inhibition despite a place in the plays-offs riding on a positive result.
On seven minutes Jack Lester put Chesterfield ahead with his 22nd goal of the season.
Peter Till showed poise to play in the former Nottingham Forest player, who eased the ball over Mikhael Jaimez-Ruiz.
Aldershot's faulty offside trap left the defence in no-man's land, and they were virtual spectators as the ball rolled into the net.
On 23 minutes Drew Talbot drove down the right flank and fired in a vicious drive from 25 yards which forced Jaimez-Ruiz to produce a spectacular save.
Aldershot gradually worked themselves into the game but lacked energy. On 34 minutes Kirk Hudson shot straight at Tommy Lee, after the goalkeeper had fumbled John Grant's cross at his feet.
Robinson then went close firing just past the left post, after making space for himself on the edge of the area.
In the closing moments of the first half, the home side were unfortunate not to equalise.
Grant muscled his way into the box and passed to Robinson. The diminutive striker fired his shot on target but was denied on the line by Danny Hall.
In the opening moments of the second half Lester almost killed the game as a contest.
Substitute Scott Boden's cross bounced off the striker's thigh and into the grateful arms of Jaimez-Ruiz with the goal at his mercy.
In the 52nd minute Robinson stabbed home his fourth goal for Aldershot. Anthony Charles rose unchallenged to flick the ball the striker and the Brighton and Hove Albion loanee touched home a classic poacher's goal with his back to goal.
On 74 minutes Boden tamely fired at Jaimez-Ruiz after skilfully working his way into the penalty area.
In stoppage time Marvin Morgan should have snatched all three points for the Shots, but drove wide of the right post when clean through.
