Aldershot Town 1 Gillingham 1

Honours even once again at the EBB, with two cracking second half goals from Danny Hylton and former Shot John Nutter.

Shots manager Dean Holdsworth made several changes to his starting line-up. Grand, Jarrett, Harding and Small all left out, with Morris, Halls, McGlashan and Sills coming in.

Shots shaded a first half which saw few opportunities for either side. Sills wasted Shots best chance....failing to get any real purchase on a header from a Luke Guttridge cross that was made for him, 8 yards out.

The Aldershot defence managed to reduce the lively front pairing of Cody Mcdonald and Adebayo Akinfenwa to just one effort, a shot by Akinfenwa, which Young saved well, diving to his left.

It was a much different story at the start of the second half. Gills brought on Andy Barcham and attacked Shots straight from the off. Maher volleyed home from 30 yards, only for the ref to blow up as he struck. Then McDonald was inexplicably left free when Shots should have cleared easily and his poked effort was creeping in until Young sprang from nowhere to tip it round the post. Akinfenwa had a shot blocked and then Maher fired just wide again....all in the first twelve frantic minutes.

Shots survived the onslaught and then responded with their own three-in-one effort; Guttridge, Sills and McGlashan all thwarted by keeper Alan Julian in the same attack.

Better was to follow though in the 76th minute. Danny Hylton received the ball on the half way line and turned smartly. As he sped off down the wing, John Halls floated a beautiful pass back to him....he ran on into the area, cut back on his right and scored from 12 yards.....a beauty!!

Gillingham bounced back just five minutes later though, thanks to a beauty of their own, a wicked curling free kick from ex-Shot John Nutter. They could have won it when just a couple of minutes later, McDonald hit the post, but Shots hung on to claim another vital point towards their battle for League Two safety.
