Jonny Dixon was the Aldershot saviour, popping up eight minutes into the second half to acrobatically head in an equaliser, as they played out a 1-1 draw with Woking at the Recreation ground.

The draw had seemed very unlikely for the Shots after they had put in a first half display as depressing and as poor as the long suffering Shots fans have had to endure all season.

They fell behind to a dominant Woking side after Justin Richards deservedly netted for the Cards in a one-sided first half.

Whatever Shots boss Terry Brown said at half-time seemed to have done the trick for his side, as Aldershot produced a fighting display to secure a share of the points which, given Woking's dominance and strength in the first half, had been improbable.

Woking took the lead on seven minutes. With no Shots defender close, Craig McAlister struck a low drive, which Nikki Bull did well to keep out, but the rebound fell to Richards who made no mistake for his 14th goal of the season.

The signs of Woking's intentions were clear with their attacking policy from the start, which constantly stretched the Shots rearguard. Seconds before the Cards goal, Bull was alert to Karl Murray's header to tip it over his bar after Liam Cockerill had crossed from the left.

Richards gave the 19-year-old Dave Winfield a torrid time, with the Cards hit man unlucky not to capitalise on the young defenders poor back header midway through the first half.

Three minutes before the break, Woking should have doubled their lead, when Richards again got the better of Winfield, but Bull made an excellent save from Richards' powerful drive, diving low down to his right.

Aldershot had a very poor first half, lacking cohesion and understanding, and only Darren Barnard's wayward 30-yard speculative effort, to show for their effort.

The Aldershot leveller was justly deserved on the strength of their second half come back. The home side won a free kick, 25 yards out, for which Nick Crittenden and Barnard looked interested. Crittenden let fly, only to see his strike hit the upright, but rebounding at a comfortable height for the alert Dixon to dive and head in.
