Another Marvin Morgan wonder goal was enough to seal all three points for Shots against a Morecambe side that perhaps deserved more from the game.
Shots took the game to Morecambe from the off, beginning the match with a much bolder, 4-3-3 formation, Jackson and Spencer joining MMM to give the visitors defence plenty to think about.
To be fair to Morecambe, they coped well early on and even counter-attacked with good effect, without ever really troubling Jamie Young in the Shots goal.
The match came alive on 26 minutes, when good work between Jackson and MMM resulted in a corner for Shots. Ben Harding's pin point delivery into the box was met by Damien Spencer, who rose to head the ball home.
For the first time in five home matches, Shots had taken the lead! And before we could all get our heads round that, they scored again! Another teasing, curling, left foot strike from MMM, this time finding its way into the net without the assistance of the woodwork! 2-0 Shots and everything at the EBB Stadium was looking rosy!
However, the second half was to be a vastly different story! Morecambe have a reputation for coming back from two or three goals down....and they set about their task straight from the off. Stanley, Mullin and Duffy threatened Jamie Youngs goal, but he held firm, until substitute Scott Brown unleashed a blistering 30 yard strike that flew in just under Young's crossbar, 2-1. Nerves crept into the Shots team....and around the ground. Morecambe crept into Shots penalty area, again and again!
A Jim Bentley header crashed onto the bar..and we all breathed a sigh of relief.
Four minutes of time added, did little to calm the nerves of the Shots faithful, but eventually the final whistle blew and Shots hung on for their first home win in five, the three points taking them up to 7th place in League Two.
