With an application and dash of style which made it all look rather easy, Aldershot Town reclaimed a place in League Two’s top 10.
Expertly crafted goals from Bozanic and Morgan illuminated a thoroughly professional display which exposed the acute limitations of a poor Shrewsbury side. Hungry and dynamic from the first whistle, and adjusting perfectly to a 4-4-2 formation, The Shots should have been ahead long before Bozanic, arriving late into the box from midfield, finished an impressive left-wing move involving Morgan and man of the match Straker.
Shrewsbury were bereft for most of the game, affording Jaimez-Ruiz a virtually trouble-free afternoon as mere onlooker to his team-mates’ domination. Latching onto an under-hit back pass, which stuck in the mud, Jackson hit Button’s shoulder with a shot that should have increased their lead, but Aldershot simply continued to dictate after the break.
Paul Simpson’s substitutions had little impact as he surprisingly persisted with a weak 4-5-1 formation; in contrast, Damien Spencer nearly scored with his first touch, a glancing header which bounced inches wide.
Minutes later, though, Morgan sealed the points with a spectacular strike, picking up Straker’s low cross with his back to goal before turning in an instant and smashing a shot into the top corner from 16 yards.
Ben Herd almost against his former team with a 30-yard drive straight at Button, but then typified a superb individual performance by racing back to his own six-yard box to clear a rare moment of danger.
A Play Off place probably remains a step too far for Aldershot, but this victory, coupled with a positive result at Darlington on Tuesday, will at least prolong the agony of hope a while longer.
