Manager Gary Waddock provided three players with their Aldershot Town debuts as the teams were announced for the opening match of the season.

Newly-appointed captain Adam Hinshelwood and vice captain John Halls were selected alongside former Shrewsbury Town defender Ben Herd.

Kicking towards the High Street end Aldershot started patiently. Halls provided the first expression of play with a 30 yard switch into the path of Louie Soares on the right-hand side.

A well-floated delivery was met by the head of Marvin Morgan who, from eight yards, was unable to keep the effort down. Hinshelwood showed why he has been brought into the squad almost immediately when his perfectly timed challenge on the edge of the 18 yard box denied veteran striker Dean Windass. The start to the season all Aldershot fans dreamt for occurred on three minutes.

Soares again produced a through ball on the right that allowed Morgan [pictured] the opportunity to cut in on goal.
