Aldershot gave their play-off hopes a boost as they convincingly beat fierce local rivals and fellow top-five contenders Woking 4-0 at the Recreation Ground to send their visitors to their heaviest defeat of the season.

The Shots supplied early pressure with Jake Robinson shooting wide and Woking keeper Shwan Jalal parrying Tim Sills' effort past the post.

In the 17th minute the Shots took the lead when Robinson fed Dwain Clarke and he cut into the box before firing home.

Woking had a chance to equalise with a free-kick on the edge of the area but Jefferson Louis shot well wide.

Just before the half-hour mark the Shots doubled their lead when Sills turned home Steve Watson's cross from close range.

Just four minutes later it was 3-0 when Robinson won a free-kick on the edge of the box. Dave Lee's effort was blocked by Raphael Nade but the rebound fell to Darren Barnard who fired a fierce 20-yard shot home.

Woking struggled to respond and Clarke, looking for his second goal, fired just wide as the Cardinals went into the break three goals to the good.

Woking tried to pick up the pace after the interval but Shots keeper Nikki Bull saved Neil Smith's shot and, with what proved to be the visitors best chance, Justin Richards fired wide after collecting Bull's mis-hit clearance.

In the 74th minute, to make matters worse for Woking, Jon Boardman was given his marching orders for his second bookable offence.

The Shots continued to dominate and Nick Crittenden and Robinson went close to making it 4-0.

With three minutes to go Aldershot finally did grab a fourth goal when Crittenden launched a ball into the area for substitute Jon Challinor to head past Jalal.

In stoppage time, Bull saved from Nade while Crittenden hit the post but the Shots had already done enough to seal an emphatic win.
