Canvey Island staged a late recovery to down Aldershot Town 2-1 at Park Lane.
The Islanders' home start to the season started badly as they fell behind in the 16th minute to a goal from Aldershot's loan defender Scott Guyett.
This happened just after two good Canvey chances, when in the 14th minute Ben Sedgemore's shot nearly found the Aldershot net, but keeper Nikki Bull showed safe hands.
Lee Boylan had a few chances, but the best came on the 15th minute mark when his header hit the sidenetting.
Aldershot dominated most of the first half and left a lot of gaps in Canvey's defence.
Towards the end of the half Canvey started to attack more, but failed to find the net.
The start of the second half looked a lot more promising for the Gulls, but lack of finishing, despite the signing of two new frontmen, kept Canvey quiet.
But goal hero Boylan equalised in the 84th minute and opened Canvey's scoring tally for the new season with an easy one-on-one opportunity.
Two minutes later new signing Allan Tait was brought down in the Shots box to give Canvey a late penalty and Boylan took it sweetly to score his second in the game to give Canvey a lead for the first time.
After a pretty close match had Canvey won their first home game this season, but both sides missed key chances.
Boylan had once again rescued an improved Canvey squad to the delight of the supporters around the stadium.
