A frantic opening saw Forest Green take the lead after just 90 seconds as striker Stuart Fleetwood latched on to a loose ball before unleashing a fierce drive that flew past the Aldershot goalkeeper from 18 yards.
The lead did not last long and in the 11th minute Louis Soares floated in a delightful cross that was met by John Grant who duly headed home his third goal of the season.
Shots soon had the lead themselves when Jonny Dixon got in front of a static Forest Green defence to power a fantastic header into the back of the net to make it 2-1 in the 26th minute but their jubilation was cut short when Anthony Straker received a straight red card for a professional foul on Leslie Afful 16 minutes later.
But the dismissal did not disrupt the visitors' flow and Grant claimed his second of the game when he finished another Soares cross from close range in the 55th minute to stretch Aldershot's lead to 3-1.
Darren Jones scored a late goal when he converted Afful's low cross from six yards to spark a furious finale but it transpired to be a mere consolation as the Shots' defence held out to secure all three points.
