Jackman strike enough for Gills
Danny Jackman's strike proved decisive as 10-man Gillingham hung on for a 1-0 win against Aldershot.
The hosts threatened first when Garry Richards' looping drive was pushed over by goalkeeper Ross Worner after 15 minutes, and Matt Lawrence glanced wide from the resulting corner.
Aldershot continued to soak up Gillingham's pressure and Curtis Weston's 35-yard drive deflected narrowly off target before skipper Andy Frampton's header whistled over.
Although the Shots were clinging on at half-time, their resistance only lasted a minute after the break when Danny Kedwell's pass found Jackman to fire through a crowded area.
The visitors were handed a lifeline in the 61st minute when Joe Martin saw red for a second booking but Gillingham goalkeeper Ross Flitney was alert to deny Scott Davies one-on-one.
Aldershot kept Gillingham on the back-foot but Flitney's reflexes came to their rescue, acrobatically saving Peter Vincenti's volley, as they closed out the win.
