Macclesfield Town took the honours against Aldershot Town after a pulsating second-half thriller.

Five goals came in the first 16 minutes after the break with Francis Green only sealing the outcome in the closing stages.

But the Shots had the better of the first half with Danny Hylton drilling two shots past the near post in the opening 15 minutes and Ben Harding forcing Jonny Brain to spill a fierce drive on the half hour.

Brain made a brilliant save on the stroke of half-time to palm wide a Rob Elvins drive to keep Macc in the game.

Macclesfield took advantage on 48 minutes when Danny Thomas pulled the ball back for Gareth Evans to fire home with a sweet 12-yard drive.

However only three minutes later the Shots got back on level terms when Kirk Hudson powered home a low right-foot volley from the edge of the box.

Macclesfield winger Danny Thomas then scored his first two goals of the season, both left-foot shots from the same spot.

The first on 54 minutes took a wicked deflection off Anthony Charles before creeping under Nikki Bull. The second just four minutes later needed no assistance as it flew inches inside the near post.

Soon after Hylton brought the visitors right back into the game at 3-2, but the Shots were not to complete the recovery.

Sub Green wasted two gilt-edged chances, but made no mistake on 84 minutes when he connected with a firm downward header to convert a pinpoint Terry Dunfield cross.

Aldershot will rue not putting away all their chances in the first half with some lackadaisical finishing that gave Macclesfield the opportunity to thrill their home fans and banish the memories of their early season form which saw them lose their first four games.
