Truth of the matter is, the Shots were well and truly beaten by the Shaymen on Saturday and despite showing the odd flash of genius – it was yet another match where the Shots were outclassed by a club at the same end of the table.
The victory saw the Shaymen move in to the position previously held by the Shots (4th) and there could be no argument that they deserved the three points.
The West Yorkshire club opened the match with a goal after just 5 minutes when Dean Howell crossed the ball through the Shots six-yard box and found Ryan Sugden at the far post who was on hand to tap in the easiest goal he’ll score all season.
Following the goal, Halifax dominated all areas of play – and like the Carlisle defeat, the Shots were looking like a team who had never played together before. The defence was all over the place, the midfield was easily over powered and the attack was all but missing. Nikki Bull was perhaps the sole reason the score line wasn’t as bad as it should have been.
The victory was sealed at 1-0 but on 70 minutes Halifax were handed the ball (yet again) by some sloppy Shots midfield play. It was launched over the top of the Shots defence towards the teams vulnerable right back position which set Lewis Killeen off on an unchallenged run. Killeen had a spectacular shot which Nikki Bull did well to parry but could do nothing with the rebound as it sailed towards the back of the Aldershot net.
