Woking 0 - 1 Aldershot Town

A neat finish from substitute Kirk Hudson in the 78th minute has given the Shots a seven point cushion at the top of the league.

It was in truth a typically dour local derby, with few clear cut chances, but the Shots edged it and they deserved their 1 - 0 victory.

Surprisingly, John Grant and Louis Soares were not named in the Shots sixteen man squad.

In the third minute, Nikki Bull had to be alert when rushing off his line to dispossess Morgan, on the edge of the 6 yard box.

In the 15th minute Scott Davies' vicious shot was well pushed behind by Gindre.

The home side had the best of the early period and they almost took the lead on 20 minutes.

Morgan had a shot from 15 yards out which took a wicked deflection off a defender. It looped over the fully stretched Bull, but fortunately for the Shots it struck the bar before being cleared to safety.

Jonny Dixon was then in the clear, but his attempted lob didn't have the necessary power to clear Gindre.

The Shots were now getting on top and Davies' effort, from a free kick, was blocked by the defensive wall.

The ball came back into the box and appeared to strike a defender's raised arm, but the Ref waived away the penalty appeals.

The best chance of the half fell to Anthony Straker just after the half hour mark.

A neat flick on from Dixon sent him clear on a 1 on 1 with the keeper.

However the left back didn't look too confident and his shot was well saved by Gindre.

Half Time: Woking 0 - Shots 0

Rhys Day was a rock in the Shots defence all afternoon, and in the 55th minute he produced a superb tackle to deny Sole.

Just after the hour mark, Kirk Hudson replaced the obviously disappointed Davies.

Soon after, a Chalmers long throw was flicked on by Charles and only a last ditch headed clearance prevented it falling for Dixon.

The Shots were beginning to turn the screw, but Straker curled his effort well over when he was in a good position inside the box.

In the 71st minute an excellent ball from Chalmers found Joel Grant in the left channel.

After initially doing well in turning his defender inside out, he wasted the opportunity by firing well over.

Two minutes later Danny Hylton replaced Dixon.

After an excellent 30 yard run, Hudson found Joel Grant, but yet again the winger squandered the chance with an awful attempt which flew well wide.

The decisive moment came on 78 minutes.

Danny Hylton did superbly to beat his marker near the bye line, and he squared it for Hudson who finished clinically from 8 yards out.

The home side threw everything at the Shots, but even though the linesman didn't seem to know the offside rule, the Shots defence brilliantly marshalled by Day, held firm..

TS Ratings:
Bull 7, Gier 6.5, Straker 6, Charles 7, Day 8, Chalmers 7, Davies 6.5 (Hudson 7), Harding 7, Dixon 6.5 (Hylton 7), Elvins 5, Joel Grant 5

With thanks to Tongham Shots.
