The Trust Board have decided to sponsor the Community Trust's efforts to increase the club's profile in our local schools and have agreed to invest £3000 in the programme.
Aldershot Town's Football in the Community officer Kirk Wheeler is developing the scheme in order to fund local schoolchildren and family members coming to every home game during the 2011-12 season and the children will participate in a season-long competition taking place just before the game or at half time.
Kirk will be increasing the Football in the Community interaction with our local schools as part of this scheme and we will be working together to generate more positive publicity for the Football Club.
We see this activity as a way of increasing our community reach, helping to build our fan base for the future and encouraging local youngsters to build loyalty and interest in the club.
The decision to fund this initiative was taken in the knowledge that nearly all of that money will find its way to the Football Club and thereby provide some benefit, that we are helping to build our long term supporter base and that we are enabling more positive engagement in the community.
The investment also puts a tick in all the boxes of the Supporters Trust with the money being used for something tangible yet still supports the club and by doing so, we are increasing the Trust's influence and we are helping to provide some benefit in the community.
All of this is being achieved without any request for shares or loss of control of the use of the money.
We will have further updates of the scheme in the new season.
